Iron impurities in a fired ceramic product cause serious structural defects (nicks and cracks on the surface, or throughout the ceramic mass). Weakly magnetic fine iron and iron minerals also affect the color and brightness, which is particularly fatal where white ceramics are used, such as crockery, tiles or sanitary ware. This ferrous contamination is successfully removed through the use of high-intensity magnetic separators. The areas of application include:
- Removal of free fine iron from ceramic slips and glazes using High Intensity Electromagnetic Filters and Permanent Magnetic Liquid Traps .
- The removal of fine iron from spray-dried ceramics and powders using high-intensity drum magnets and rare-earth magnetic separators .
- Bar and grid magnets , cone magnets and plate magnets are suitable for final quality assurance .
- Cleaning of non-metallic minerals used in ceramic production (e.g. feldspar, quartz sand) using rare earth magnetic separators or induction drum separators .
